Structural Insulated Panel Construction - North Captiva Island, Florida

Bill Slocum Coastal Homes was the first home builder on North Captiva Island to utilize green building technology.  Our focus is on sustainable development that will meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

We strive to build houses that greatly decrease the impact of a home on the environment during the building process and throughout the lifetime of the structure by promoting:

  • Energy Efficiency - Use of environmentally preferable building materials including highly insulated building panels, high impact windows and attention to the insulation factor in every  aspect of building.  The use of highly energy efficient appliances and HVAC systems.

  • Site Planning - Environmentally conscious site planning that will increase energy efficiency and promote environmental preservation.

  • Recycling - Waste reduction and recycling during the building process.

  • Local Manufacturing - The use of locally manufactured building products whenever possible, decreasing embedded energy costs.

  • A Healthy Indoor Environment - The use of "zero" VOC  "Eco-Spec" paint by Benjamin Moore, promotion of green interior building materials, (e.g. bamboo flooring and tile), Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) and cross-linked polyethylene plumbing systems (PEX).

Working closely with Two Trails, Inc., a Florida Green Building Coalition certification agent, helps us to achieve our green development goals.

We also focus on building highly hurricane resistant homes. Our house built prior to Hurricane Charlie, which passed directly over North Captiva Island, had no damage as a result of the storm.  And we've completed 9 extensive rehabilitation projects on the island since the storm.

Engineered for strength and using the latest insulation technologies, we build Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) homes and Empyrean Homes, as well as conventionally framed homes.

Bill Slocum Coastal Homes uses time honored building methods, coupled with cutting edge building technology to give you the finest, greenest, most storm resistant new home available today.
